Ebonite’s Magic line is part of a high-performance series that features the new Magic Symmetric mass bias core. This core has a peg at the top to enact a skid/flip ball reaction. The Ebonite Magic’s coverstock, FLEXOL REACTIVE, works with the Magic Symmetric mass bias core to give a long, strong performance down the entire lane. Ebonite says that the bowling ball was designed specifically for bowlers looking for reliable length and backend. The Ebonite Magic performs best on medium-heavy oil and is available in many different color combinations. Many vendors are touting the Ebonite Magic as “the strongest” ball in the entire Ebonite line, and it also has performed particularly well in product showcases when a lot of different people are using the same ball to get a feel for the experience. This indicates that the Ebonite Magic has a great deal of potential even before you leave the store with it.

If you are looking for a ball that is great in oil but that you can still bowl with if the lanes are drier than you were expecting, then the Ebonite Magic is the ball for you. While I did spend some time drilling it to “perfection,” once I followed the Ebonite guidelines for drilling this ball I could move out, throw hard and still make the ball take a late hook and a hard left turn. While this ball is definitely designed for and clearly loves the heavy oil, it performs in any conditions except the dry ones. For the first two games in particular, you can really get out in front of the pack if you are wielding this “Magic” weapon. While some people say you have to save this one for the heavy oil, I disagree. I had no problems at all until I tried it on a lane that had been really – and I mean Really – broken in. The back end and mid lane performance are also good, but where this ball really shines is at the end and in the oil.
